Production Update #1 – First Shoot!

By March 20, 2017 No Comments

Welcome to the first production update! I plan on doing these regularly as the film progresses so I can keep you up to date on what’s happening.

So I just got back from Texas where I filmed the very first shots of the film – two days of interviewing and shooting lots of footage of the first of the adult self-directed learners that will be featured. It was hard work and long days but luckily Texas wasn’t too hot (yet) so I was able to shoot pretty much all day long on both days.

I can’t say enough how thrilled I am with the results!  The interview was eloquent, thought-provoking and inspirational, and as you can see from the attached photo, clearly there’s some auto mechanics involved in this scenario which created some great opportunities visually. And to top it off there were a few surprises thrown in too. But for those, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait until the film is finished (unless I decide to sneak some of it out early).

All in all, it was a great and dynamic way to kick-off production on this film and I’m looking forward to sharing some of the footage with you a little later.

In other news, I’m still actively looking for more participants and have been talking to lots of potential candidates and one of the things I’m particularly excited about is the incredible diversity of talent and interests these people have, which I think is a direct testament to the power of self-directed learning. When you are given freedom as a child to follow your passions and dig deep into what interests you, there’s no limit to what you can do.

I currently have three people confirmed who have agreed to share their story and a slice of their life on-camera with me and I’m looking forward to spending time with each of them. Next up, is a potential shoot in Los Angeles that seems to be coming together, followed by a couple of others on the East Coast in May. As production ramps up, it’s going to get busy for sure but it’s going to be a great adventure.

Thanks for following along. Stay tuned for more updates and be sure to follow the official Facebook Page.

Cheers,

Jeremy
