Dear friends and supporters,
I hope you got to read the previous post about some of the fantastic organizations that have become official sponsors of the film. I really appreciate their support and everything they are doing to promote independent and alternative learning.
Following on from the last post, here is part 2, highlighting a few more of them. Be sure to check out their websites for more information.
Agile Learning Centers are a rapidly expanding network of intentional learning communities leveraging agile tools to support self-directed education.
We envision a future where the understanding that learning is happening all the time radically redefines education. We are building toward the possibility for every person to practice self-direction, self-expression, and community co-creation as they grow. Finally, we imagine that facilitating reflection and sharing among learning communities will guide them in adapting to our continuously changing world.
By building relationships and connection across learning communities, we increase the accessibility of community wisdom and support for all involved, improving the impact, sustainability, and resilience of all projects. By practicing transparency, reflection, generosity, trust, clarity, and responsibility within our community, we align how we relate with the world changes we hope will come from what we create.
Finally, by intentionally crafting infrastructure for increasing collective intelligence, we accelerate all of our abilities to learn, innovate, and adapt.
Imagine what would happen if, instead of sending children to conventional schools where their natural ways of learning are curtailed, we provided them with the resources that would allow their curiosity, playfulness, and other natural ways of learning to flourish. That is Self-Directed Education (SDE): education that derives from the self-chosen activities and life experiences of the learner.
The Alliance for Self-Directed Education (ASDE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to normalizing and legitimizing Self-Directed Education, to make it available to everyone who seeks it.
Conventional parenting advice focuses on managing children’s behavior, but it doesn’t give you what you really need: a whole new understanding of human nature, relationships, and power — one that makes “behavior management” obsolete and irrelevant.
As Einstein famously said, we can’t solve our problems with the same kind of thinking that created them. In parenting, most problems are created or sustained by the mistaken belief that control is the same as power. Parents who are truly powerful don’t focus on controlling their children’s behavior, nor are they controlled by their children.
Authentic power has nothing to do with controlling. But when you feel “out of control,” that is precisely when you most need to reconnect with your authentic power.
Through The Daily Groove, founder Scott Noelle teaches creative empowerment strategies that can transform your parenting and all your relationships. To keep it simple, we focus on four positive pathways to power:
Partnership, Authenticity, Trust, and Heart
